Fort Custer
Tactical
9 Dezember 2006

This was a new tactical for our unit. Somewhat different than what we were use to. First off the battle was located in southern Michigan between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo at a National Guard training facility. Most of the unit arrived Friday afternoon and evening. Finding our barracks and getting squared away we marveled at how nice the barracks were, completely modernized. Almost like staying in a motel. We also had to attend a fifteen-minute class on how the RETO system works which is what the tactical was based on. It’s kind of like a big scavenger hunt to get points for your side all the while trying to take out the enemy HQ and try and keep them from attaining there points.
At first the morning battles seemed disorganized and confusing but as the day went on they became more real and enjoyable. We were constantly on the move and the terrain was great. We had numerous squirmishes with allied forces where we were almost always out numbered by a much larger force. Which in turn meant a lot of trigger time. By the end of the day we were almost all out of ammo.
Most of us thought this was a good battle and now that we have a better understanding of how the RETO system works next time should be even better. We all agreed to give it another go next year.
